Disco Soup #3 was an incredible success, thanks to the help of our organising team and a lot of great volunteers on the day, especially the SOUP-MAKING team who were under non-stop soup pressure but still made souper soup! We fed 800+ people from produce that would otherwise have gone to waste!
Thanks to Jade Neville for the photography
We didn’t let ANYONE pay a dime for any of the 800 + free portions soup we gave out on Nov 1st. However, if you’d like to contribute to any of the great organisations we’re working with: through giving time to help with projects or through donating funds, that could be a great way of giving back!
~ Oxford Food Bank: amazing fresh food “waste” redistribution, distributing tasty, in date-food to over 40 different charitable organisations, done nearly all by volunteers. They are looking for van drivers and shift volunteers!
~ Community Action Groups: great place to start looking for organisations working on social and environmental issues to volunteer with.
~ More great groups & farmers markets…! (<– click for more info!)
ALSO! If you’d like to join the organising team (small but lovely and lots of fun!) in any capacity (publicity, crafts, soup-making, pre-making soups, music, entertainment or other) to help make the next Disco Soup even better, please email DiscoSoupOxford@gmail.com ! With a bigger team of organisers helping we can make the next DSoup even better!
If you enjoyed the soups and thought them delicious, Sandra from Donnington Doorstep was helping oversee soup flavours and more. Donnington Doorstep is a brilliant children’s surestart centre that supports families across Oxford with subsidised children’s activities and food, and Sandra runs their catering social enterprise which helps fund the children’s centre. She was volunteering her time at Disco Soup, but if you’re looking for delicious, beautiful catering for an event, we’d definitely recommend getting in touch with her through DD! They are also looking for more volunteers: if you’d like to help out or find out more, get in touch with them here!
Thanks to Good Food Oxford and Hubbub for supporting the event, and to Green TV for filming it (here’s their great work!) and to the Oxford Pumpkin Festival as a whole entity of food waste events that Disco Soup added itself too! #pumpkinrescue
Thanks to Stig once more for this amazing banner! If you need a banner making for a good cause, we’d recommend Stig: check out his climate change art work! If you would like to use this image, please feel free, but please do credit Stig: https://shtiggy.wordpress.com/ and a little mention of Disco Soup Oxford would be great too 🙂 Thank you.
