Disco Soup is back with a bang as part of the Oxford Food & Drink Festival co-organised by Bitten and Oxford City Council; and we’re inviting you all, as ever, to join us in Oxford’s biggest communal cook-up and feast; complete with music! Volunteers sign up here!

11am – 3:30pm

We’re looking for some souper volunteers, no experience needed but those who love to cook are very welcomed to come join us stove-side to help out in the day or two before; and throughout the day itself (Sunday 16th October).

To help:-

–collect as much food that otherwise wouldn’t have been eaten as possible (including transporting it by bike trailer where possible!)

– to pre-prepare some veg and soup so we’re ready to serve hot food at 12noon for FREE

– to set-up on the day (gazebos, tables and getting your cook-on); ready for a day of cooking and fun

– to soupervise and encourage the general public and passers-by to join in the collective cooking, join in the dancing to the music and join in the feast; made from food surplus

-to chat to passers-by about what we’re doing and why! (we’re cooking up surplus food to show how delicious some of the food that is going uneaten can be!)

-to pack-up at the end of the day (fuelled by the extra special banana bread that is classic of any Disco Soup pack-up session)

We’ve got a doodle-poll that volunteers can sign up to; and we’d need your name, number, email address and that’s it! You’re very welcome to sign up to volunteer with friends, and we’ll make sure that you both have the same time slot, and, as far as possible, the same activity.

We need volunteers for 1.5 hours – 2 hours stints between 8:30am till ~5pm; early morning shift get patisserie and the pack-up crew get banana bread! Everyone else gets free soup to try all day long!

8:45 – 10am (with patisserie & coffee) – Setting up Crew!
9:30am-11:00 am (with coffee!) – Setting up & Warming up soup
10:00am – 12:00noon – Cooking! Chopping & Concocting delicious Soups! (those who love to cook especially welcome in this slot!)
10:30 am – 12:30pm Cooking! Chopping & Concocting delicious Soups! (those who love to cook especially welcome in this slot!)
11:00am – 1:00pm (including a break so you can eat a proper lunch!) – Cooking & Chatting to passersby
11:30 – 1:30pm (including a break so you can eat a proper lunch!) – Cooking, Serving & Chatting to passersby
12noon- 2pm – Cooking, Serving & Chatting to passers-by
1pm – 3pm – Cooking, Lots of serving soup & chatting to passers-by [we finish cooking new soup at 3pm]
1:30pm – 3:30pm – Last of the cooking of new soups & lots of serving soup & chatting to passers-by
2:30pm – 4:30pm (with banana bread) Last of the soups & start Pack Up at 3:30pm
3:00pm – 5pm (with banana bread) Pack Up Crew! (one last soup-hit and then pack up crew to the last of the musical beets!)
