We’re very excited to be building our very own bike trailer this Sunday! This coincides with National Bike Week AND National Recycling week- and we’ll be building the trailer largely from “scrap” parts, upcycling what once was skipped or unwanted into an amazing eco-transportation device for redistributing fruit and vegetables!
We’ve had to keep numbers small and the workshop is now FULL but we’ll be putting up lots of photos and hoping to encourage other local groups to use bike trailers/ make their own bike trailers and use these instead of cars for transporting heavy and unwieldy items!
We’d love you to come check out our blog after the workshop (on 23rd June) to see how we get on! We’ll also need help decorating the trailer afterwards, so if you’re interested in helping, keep your eyes peeled for our call-out for arty creative helpers…
We’ll be using our bike trailer a lot come harvest season (well actually, in a month or so hopefully, if we can find people with soft fruit such as plums and cherries in abundance that they don’t want!) to transport:
Donated unwanted excesses of fruit and vegetables
from PRIVATE SPACES such as back gardens and hotel gardens etc
TO
PUBLIC SPACES & charitable organisations helping to feed those in need,
& skill-shares about preserving food to make it last longer & reduce wastage.
If you know of a fruit tree which often produces too much fruit to handle, please get in touch with us!

(you don’t have to be the tree owner to do so, we’d just love the tip off and then we’ll put a flyer through their door or have a quick, friendly chat with them and see if they’re interested in donating their abundance and excess to us! (and if not, we’ll leave them alone ) )
The wonderful Stig will be running our workshop for us, he’s a bike-trailer making guru and you might have seen his trailer in use by the Broken Spokes Bike Coop
Stig also happens to be a graphic designer, and you might have seen his murals round the city or his graphics on material fighting the good fight, check out his website for an idea of what else Stig get’s up to!
We’re pretty excited about this, and will keep you up to date so check back soon!
YOUPI! So excited to see it, hope pictures are coming soon!
