WRAP: http://www.wrap.org.uk/ came to run a workshop on food waste for Abundance Oxford volunteers yesterday, which was great! They really know their stuff and we’re really grateful to Sallie from WRAP for her time- and plan to try and spread all that we learned as far and as best as we can.

You might have thought that this workshop is far removed from harvesting fruit and foraging and other usual Abundance activities- but one of our key ethos is to reduce food wastage- and whether that be fallen and forgotten fruits in back gardens or forgotten fruit and veg from supermarkets- the net result is the same: waste.
Composting is great but composting good, edible food, especially when it’s travelled far to get to your home and …has been part of an agricultural system which uses a lot of water and resource, still isn’t that great. And you might not believe it but households waste more than supermarkets overall (!) So if you find you’re doing it more often that not; or want to find a way to make food last that little bit longer and go that little bit further, or find exciting ways to use peelings and other bits and bobs – then definitely check out WRAP. We learned lots of great tips and will start giving one or two out at the end of our newsletters, blogs and on facebook.
